PAKISTAN: Frontier Corp Attacks on Baloch Families, killing one woman Toronto, April 20, 2010 – Baloch Human Rights Council (Canada) condemns in the strongest words the brutal and cowardly pre-dawn paramilitary attack on Baloch families in Quetta, Balochistan. In a press statement, Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC) expressed deepest sorrow over the loss of life of a brave Baloch woman, Ms. Mehnaz Mengal and arbitrary arrests of more than 250 men in a raid by the Pakistani security forces. According to sources in Balochistan and the Baloch media, this unprovoked paramilitary operation began between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on April 20, 2010. Sources stated that the whole area, comprising of hundreds of houses was completely surrounded by the heavily armed Frontier Corp (paramilitary organization) and cordoned off from the rest of the city. None of the media personnel of local TV networks, photographers, and reporters were allowed to enter the area where a house to house search was underway for Baloch political activists. Baloch media states that during the search operation women and children were harassed, manhandled, and humiliated at gunpoint by the security forces. Any kind of resistance by the families to the unlawful invasion of their privacy was dealt with excessive use of brutal force that resulted in the death of Ms. Mehnaz Mengal when she intervened to save her son from the soldiers. According to sources, more than 250 men and youth of the families were beaten, handcuffed, and whisked away to a military camp for interrogation. BHRC (Canada) questioned the legitimacy of this barbaric act of the security forces and strongly criticized the Pakistani lawmakers in the Senate, National Assembly, and Balochistan Assembly in relation to the recently approved Balochistan Package and the 18th Amendment Bill of Pakistan Constitution that was supposedly meant to provide guarantees to the safety of life and welfare of the people of Balochistan. This is yet another proof that Pakistan’s powerful military establishment sees Balochistan as an occupied territory where the only response to the political and economic demands is a military solution. BHRC (Canada) believes that this recent operation is part of a larger plan to ethnically cleanse Quetta of the Baloch people. Sources in Balochistan indicate that this was a test case for the original plan of attack in future on New Kahan, a Marri tribal settlement in Quetta. New Kahan is a new urban settlement where the families of displaced Marri Baloch tribesmen have sought refuge in the aftermath of Pakistan Air Force’s aerial bombings and the complete destruction of their ancestral villages. BHRC (Canada) appeals to the international humanitarian organizations and leaders of the western democracies to take urgent action and save innocent Baloch men, women and children from the atrocities committed by the Pakistani state and its security forces. http://www.ahrchk.net/pr/mainfile.php/2010mr/730/ |

Pakistan’s promoting religious extremism in Occupied Balochistan.
Pakistan army is directly involved in Dalbandin incidents BSO (Azaad) After the widespread popularity of Baloch freedom movement, Pakistan is trying to inject its most used weapon of religious extremism in Baloch nation, which it has successfully injected in Pashtun people to counter their voices for the reunification of Afghanistan and against the illegitimate Durand line. This weapon has not only proven successful to Pakistan for quelling the desires of masses but also to receive international funds to supposedly end the same terrorism which it has been fueling for years. In other words religious terrorism is the only weapon that Pakistan has for its survival. Whereas Baloch movement, due to its secular nature has proved to be only barrier in the way Pakistan’s created doctrine of religious extremism. In its recent efforts to inject religious extremism in Baloch nation, Pakistan has created certain groups, namely as “Baloch Ghairatmand Group”, “Baloch Mussalah Difahe Tanzeem” and it has also used its army personals to spread rumors in the name of Baloch national army. Pakistan through its secret agencies have recruited few people for this purpose, and the primary objective of these activities are to create fear among the supporters of Baloch freedom movement and to present Baloch people as religious extremists in front of the peace loving nations of the World. Baloch Mussalah Difahe Tanzeem, a group working under the supervision of Pakistan army, has been involved in attacking on the members of Baloch Student Organization Azaad and announced that these people are against Islam, as Pakistan is an Islamic state and if these people won’t stop working against The Islamic State of Pakistan we would keep on targeting them. In other words this group is not only being used to present that Baloch people are not against Pakistan but are also religious extremists. The attacks carried out by the group, has cause the martyrdom of four students in Khuzdar. Another incident took place in Gawadar where agents of Pakistan’s secret agencies threw pamphlets in the schools where Baloch girls were studying, in the name of Baloch national army. Threatening the school administration that if they won’t stop Co-Education they would be targeted, whereas the Baloch National Army denied any association with the threats and said that Baloch women are equal part of Baloch society and they have all the rights which Baloch men have. The series of such incidents have now been taken to Dalbandin, where a group named Baloch Ghairatmand Group threatened the women not to wander around without any male member of the family along and with complete pardah (Covering of the face and body). The group then attacked two innocent Baloch girls with acid and injured them badly, whereas they also stoned the houses in Dalbandin to create fear. Pakistan army is directly involved in the incidents as the local representative of B.S.O. Azaad said, he further said that Baloch movement will not stop with such acts. Baloch Student Organization Azaad has always been and will always stand in front of Pakistan and its notorious army to bring an end to religious extremism by bringing an end to the occupation of Balochistan, which would weaken the occupiers (Pakistan) that has been not only involved in promoting religious extremism in Balochistan but has also become a threat to peace in the world. B.S.O. Azaad believes that the worst hand that could hold the weapons of mass destruction is Pakistan army itself, which creates and promotes groups to spread religious extremism and terrorism. The world should not be afraid of the weapons going in the hand of extremists but they should realize that the extremists already have the weapons and they can used against any country which would stand against the state terrorism of Pakistan. Will the world prefer to live under such threats or would stand and raise the voice of freedom and peace and support the Baloch freedom movement? The world will have to decide between peace and Pakistan before its too late. |

Second attack on Balochs students in Punjab within a week. Baloch students were assaulted by a group of Punjabi students in Bahawalpur, resulting in severe injuries to Shabir Baloch, Raza Ali Marri and Shahab Baloch. The Baloch students are members of B.S.O. Azaad and several members of B.S.O. Azaad have been victims of the series of attacks on Baloch students in Punjab. B.S.O. Azaad advocates the Independence of the occupied state of Balochistan, which has been occupied by Pakistan and Iran, therefore the supporters of occupation have been attacking Baloch students wherever they find an opportunity to do so, with an objective to create fear amongst the people who advocate Balochistan’s Independence. According to the details, Baloch students who are enrolled in the institutes in Bahawalpur on scholarship basis were in the rooms of their hostel that a group of Punjabi students came and began abusing Baloch people and their movement for Independence so that the Baloch students would protest against it, but the Baloch students remained calm and peaceful, not getting any reason to attack the Punjabi students choose to attack with the core reason of the students being Baloch and assaulted the students severely injuring them. After the attack the Punjabi students left the place without any fear and it was clear to the Baloch students that this attack was supported by Pakistan’s institutions. When the injured students were taken to a local hospital the doctors refused to treat the severely injured students and told the students that they won’t treat any Baloch patient, as the Balochs are struggling for the Independence of Balochistan. This act of the Pakistani doctors shed light on the common thinking patterns of occupying people who do not respect any profession or human rights. Peace loving world can understand the behavior of Pakistan army on Balochs by seeing this example of Pakistani Doctors. Baloch Student Organization Azaad on this incident appeals all the students who are studying out of their countries to raise their voices against the incidents, to safeguard the lives of Baloch students who have left their country to acquire knowledge but are being refused medical treatment after being severely injured. |
